[opensuse] Is this a big deal?
I don't use SUSE as a desktop much, so is this a big deal? "Adobe Flash Player 9 delivers high-quality performance, a more secure viewing experience and an enhanced programming model that will help further advance SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop as the top Linux desktop for business," said Justin Steinman, director of marketing for Linux and Open Platform Solutions at Novell. <marketing gobblygook snipped> Yes and No. Unfortunately, many web "authors" are using Flash as a display medium. The guilty include Novell, as you can see a Flash-based advertisement right on their home page. For those of you not using *nix as a desktop, this is kind of a non-issue, because you won't need flash to run. However, for those of use using SUSE/Unix/Linux as a upgrade from Wintendo or the Cult of Mac, it is a necessary evil. Until I got the beta of Flash 9 running, I was shut out of many websites. Some were just using Flash 8 for marketing stuff, while others are actively using Flash as a browser-based application framework. For example, while some WebOS application vendors are using AJAX, others like g.ho.st (http://g.ho.st/) and Desktop Two (http://desktoptwo.com/) are using Flash as their engine. -- kai - theperfectreign@yahoo.com www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com www.filesite.org || www.donutmonster.com wo ist der ort für den ehrlichsten kuss ich weiss, dass ich ihn für uns finden muss... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

While at the same time gutting perfectly permissable MP3 support from every package they touch. Even the Patent holders permit use of MP3 in free software. But not Novell. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
