[SuSE Linux] General information about samba and kernel 2.2.x
Dear all, The samba mount instruction has been changed for kernel 2.2.x . The mount command does now look like: smbmount \\\\nbsserver\\users -U boonen -c 'mount /nbsserver/users -u jboonen -g users' . You need to recompile samba and you need a high version of samba 1.x but preferred is to use samba 2.x . when you do /configure --help you will see al the options. As far as i know doesn't SUSE have any samba rpm package that works for kernel 2.2.x . It is advisable to install the new samba in /usr/local and to delete the samba rpm package first. You need to put in the /etc/profile file the paths for the binairies and the man pages. Important don't forget to include the smbmnt instruction while running ./configure (see ./configure --help). When someone need specific information you may email me. Please include in that case also the email address for the mailing list as it might be useful information for other people too.
