[opensuse] backup android directly to computer without google account
Hello: The subject line tells it. I would like to backup android 2.3.4 (Samsung Galaxy Mini), especially contacts history (incoming, outgoing calls history, SMS messages) to my computer directly, without using a google account, using linux (openSUSE 12.3). File transfer method could be USB cable or local WIFI, or, less preferred, bluetooth. The question does not apply to files stored in the SD card, like photos. Is this possible? Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

you have to move files to the sd card. There are various way to do so, depending of the exact phone model. I know of apps that allow to save contacts (csv form) and sms, but do not know for history. some file explorer apps allow to look anywhere in the phone, but I'm not sure hox to use result then jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As I see AirDroid and ConnectBot cannot be used for saving/backing up call history and messages. I haven't try the others as I found a solution in the meantine, but I have a feeling that these programs can only work with SD card files. Please correct if I am wrong. Carlos E. R. írta:
I use an APP to backup SMS messages to file. It is called "SMS to Text", by SMeiTi, >currently version 1.9. It exports to plain text or to .csv file.
I will check this. I also found two applications which can save call history and messages to the SD card: "Call Logs Backup & Restore" and "SMS Backup & Restore".
And being a Samsung, you can backup most of the thing (from Windows) with Samsung >tools, no google involved. I don't know if it would run under Wine.
I am aware of it; if I remember well, it's called KIES. The only problem is I don't have a windows machine. Thank you once more, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Very true. That is nothing new, all brands are and were the same. Even using the same brand, migrating from one model to another, specially if separated by 3 year old design, has always been difficult if not impossible. For that people use their google account. It just works... A friend of mine with no technical knowledge at all just did that days ago, across brands. Just went to the shop and said "I want a new phone, one that is easy to use", and the girl at the shop did it all. Whatsup and her contacts were migrated just fine, which is what she wants most ;-) - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. The problem wasn't posed as a request to upgrade phones, the problem was posed as a method to backup to Linux. Had we known it was for migrating from one phone to another we would have suggested other methods, none of which required backing up to Google. For instance on both my wife's Moto X and my HTC One M8, there was a utility which used an app installed on the old phone to move all messages, images, videos, music as well as reinstalling all apps from their source (google or amazon), from the old phone to the new, via your local WIFI connection. The only use of the Google account was to access the market for apps (free or purchased) and install them again on the new phone. - -- _____________________________________ - ---This space for rent--- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (MingW32) iEYEARECAAYFAlPegjgACgkQv7M3G5+2DLKKrQCfXOdQqw7TmbTVHoKIrXKhZSkW NxgAn1wpBjrrSiqAa6AtO17WkkJychEA =NtNO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi The android adb app will backup apks etc. On my tablet with kitkat 4.4 I can do all that to a sd card by rebooting into backup mode, makes it nice and easy to keep all the data and do a restore, upgrade, rollback etc. -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° SUSE Knowledge Partner (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 13.1 (Bottle) (x86_64) 3.10.1 Kernel 3.11.10-17-desktop up 5:12, 3 users, load average: 0.12, 0.15, 0.14 CPU Intel® B840@1.9GHz | GPU Intel® Sandybridge Mobile -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
