Is there a Opensuse repository for LibreOffice 5.x (OS 13.2) anywhere? It seems the Opensuse packages are all several releases behind, stuck at version 4.3.7 which is so old that even the LibreOffice site doesn't acknowledge its existence any more. Does anyone have experience with the packages on the LO site for Version 5.0.4? -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hmm. I _am_ using 4.3.7.2. It's something like 6 month old. What makes you believe that newer is better? What is there in the new version that you need? Apart from the fact that many seem to think that a software that has not been updates in two weeks is no more being maintained (which is stupid)...

... Yes, I have installed version 5 from the LO rpms, no problem. However I will not be using it before next summer (because I don't want to take the risk of having to reformat all my documents without the summer holliday to do that. My 4.3.7.2 version was also installed directly from the LO rpms. I had too many problems with the openSUSE versions. Not exactly sure which of the changes will prove the most helpful. There were severe problems with positioning images in the 4.x branch. Sometimes just dragging the image from one page to another would get the anchor trapped in a page footer, and nothing short of delete and re-add would free it up. I have a contractual obligation to keep on the same release as one of my customers as we are working on a collaborative users manual. Read about the release notes here: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-notes/ 4.x is on a slow road to nowhere, 4.4.7 is the final bugfix the 4 branch will ever get. LO is not exactly like commercial software, and there seems little reason for a major release with no changes. So I jump to the conclusion that there is reason enough to upgrade, and I tend to believe there is even more reason to do so when it is not a commercial offering. Having tried the latest 5 version and opened and reprinted several documents where we are (perhaps unwisely) carefully managing the pagination, I see no difference in the printed output, so I no longer worry about having to re-format my documents. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, first you download the whole stuff as tar balls, then you unpack those tar-balls to get to the rpms inside, then you install the rpms. Your-millage-may-vary. - Yamaban. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Absolutely correct. The only advice I will add here is to copy ALL the rpms into a single directory and then apply 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' to this directory -- this avoids possible problem of having one rpm not finding a dependency (which is sitting in the rpms in another directory). Also, this will detect that there is one rpm which is duplicated (but does have a different time stamp and probably a few more/less bytes) -- the one dealing with the dictionary.
