More SuSe10 and networking issues.
What have Suse done? There seem to be all sorts of issues over networking that didn't exist in previous versions judging by the posts here and elsewhere. I have just tried upgrading my Thinkpad to 10. Install goes fine, then I plug in the cardbus network card(Realtek chipset), autodetection works fine, and it gets configured as per previous versions of SuSE, but then... nothing! ifconfig shows its details, but no IP addresses and no bytes in/out. Check to see if its DHCP, the server has an entry saying its dished one out to the system, but its never been received. Try static IP. Still no connection! I notice then under DHCP, whenever the IF light blinks to show activity and I do another ifconfig -all, the byte count stays at zero *but* the loopback byte count goes up.... Reboot the system with a knoppix 4.02 disc in and the IF works perfectly. Bizzzarely, reboot with KUbuntu live DVD and that has the same problem with the IF. Methinks that there is a kernel module problem somewhere.... Unfortunately, I have also found that my USB pen drive won't mount under 10 either, so I have no easy way of getting patches onto the system. I only upgraded because I hoped that the WiFI would work (3Com) but that still isn't detected, and the ndiswrapper supplied is still woefully out of date so it wont play ball that way either.....
