[opensuse] RAID1 partitioning proposal
I'm more comfortable with traditional partitions, so won't be using LVM. The following is how I think I want to partition on a new box. Any comments from software RAID veterans? http://fm.no-ip.com/tmp/Linux/f965-02.txt -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. There's nothing very RAID-specific here. It's far more complicated than my usual 3-4 partition setup, but I only run Linux and only one distro. /Per -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As of openSuse 10.3 (and I hear 11.0) for software raid you will need to make a small /boot on a non-raid partition. Not sure about 11.1. Not sure how you handle that with multiple installs, I've only set it up with one install in my machine. You have swap on a non-raid partition so you will be able to suspend/resume if needed. Uh, I've never done that - it's certainly wasn't necessary with 11.0 nor 10.3. I'm not sure about 10.2, but I don't really see why it would be specific to the version. /Per -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

RAID1 can be used for /boot. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I tried setting up RAID1 on 10.3 but it would not boot. I think there is a work around where you manually tell grub where to look, but it was easier to just put /boot on a small non-RAID partition. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
