[opensuse] 2.6.20 on 10.2 (again)
Sorry to ask this again, but can't seem to find a straight answer in the archives for this related thread. Is the stable 2.6.20.6 kernel available for 10.2 as an RPM? The current factory build on software.opensuse.org is the latest cutting edge 2.6.21 - is this usable? Even if it is stable, there are some packages missing which makes it unusable for some things. Beagle (no great loss imho) was missing and something else, which escapes me (but was a show stopper) were missing from 2.6.21. Hi jf, I'm guessing that you have installed the program that gives OOo a KDE look when you use it. Otherwise, there should be no dependency with OOo. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the file right now, but can look if you don't find it. That would be the only reason I could think of or another program associated with OOo in KDE you have inadvertently installed. That would be the only reason I could think of or another program associated with OOo in KDE you have inadvertently installed. I'm going to go snipe hunting then ;-) However, this is from the basic install, if you do not let it install OO, you wind up w/ XFCE or similar as a window manager, it just will not let KDE be installed , nor, once installed , can one uninstall OO and keep KDE as a window manager. It just blew my mind, but I have had it happen on two boxes now..

A couple days ago, I have successfully installed KDE without OOo and even without a lot of unused things. Yes. I need only to run a browser running in KDE, but not OOo and all KDE toys. What I did is: * When the installer run, don' choose KDE. Choose minimal Xwindow only. * In the packet list, add KDE Session, KDE Base, KDE SuSE and KDE Libs. * Answer YES if it ask for dependencies. * Continue the instalation. So, OpenSUSE 10.2 will run nicely with very minimal KDE. Disable the KDE Desktop pattern and do only a minimal KDE install. So what's your point? Did you see me say it was part of the kernel? Attempting to install .21 will cause yast to insist on un-installing beagle. That was my experience last time I tried. There were no sources for a compatible beagle.
