[opensuse] OS 11.2: NET installation stalled
Hi, I just tried a network installation of OpenSuse 11.2 in a VirtualBox. Everything went as expected except extremely slow (even though I have a 5Mb connection). I had to let it run all night. This morning I tried to finish the setup but the process is now stalled in Configuration > Hostname. It is at the last step "Updating /etc/resolv.conf" at 100% but all buttons are disabled. The cursor is busy but nothing is happening. On the previous configuration screen I selected "Use DHCP" and un-selected update /etc/resolv.conf What can I do? On the previous configuration screen I selected "Use DHCP" and un-selected update /etc/resolv.conf
Update: I restarted the Box and was extremely pleased to see that OS detected the failed installation and was able to resume the process where it stopped. I changed the option to update /etc/resolv.conf and this time it worked. But then I got to the Online Update step. The test download of the release notes was successful but it failed to find host download.opensuse.org to download update. I retried but to no avail. After rebooting once again the process was resumed and this time I did not get the option to do an online update. It went straight to login screen after updating /etc/resolv.conf. In the end I think I have a working system however these glitches are annoying. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That would almost certainly have to be a DNS problem on your side. If there was any kind of global issue with download.opensuse.org, we would have heard this many more times.

I too did a NET+http install last night, on a 6Mbps downstream line; started around 20:00, and took a couple of hours I think. It finished before I went to bed. No hiccups of any kind. /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
