Using the MySQL RPMs supplied with SuSE 8.1 the server crashes (and restarts) every time a remote user attempts to connect (connecting from the same system works fine.) The MySQL mailing list has reports of the same symptoms (but not the SuSE 8.1 version.) The cause is said to be a problem with either the compiler[1] options or with the glibc version (some people reported the problem after installing a new (distribution supplied) glibc.) Installing the "official" RPMs from a mysql.com mirror fixed the problem. Has anyone else noticed this with the SuSE RPMs, and did SuSE test their build with a remote connection? [1] The build instructions specifically warn about problems building with gcc 3.x
