One of the members of our user group put on a presentation on an interesting way to use rsync for this -- I don't know if it's the "best" way to do it, but a lot of people think so -- he even got "slashdotted" because of it. See http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots

Here's what I use every night (on the same machine) rsync -auvz --delete /home/ /home2 If I were doing this to a remote machine, it would be: rsync -e ssh -auvz --delete /home/ user@remoteid:/home2/ but then it would be asking me for a password and since I run it as a cron job, I would have to change the above. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. then consider using ssh-keys so it will be automated -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx
I use a script to pickup directories and files nightly... It's out at http://ocpdba.net/linux/backupscript.html or you can just grab the tarball from http://ocpdba.net/linux/files/backup.tar.gz HTH Ahbaid. Leen de Braal wrote:

On another drive or on another partition compatable with multiple OS?
If you LILO as I do I have one partition for both OS to use.
Now there is some question about primary vs logical parttion. I already
have two under the other OS and therefore need to use logical for at
least two partitions which 8.0 seems to need.
I dont know if it matters which of: /boot /swap /home and / are logical
or primary.
Correct me if i am wrong.
