Folks, I'm about to replace my HP970CXi printer that gave up the ghost on me. Before I shell out $$ on another one only to run into problems with it, I was wondering what printers folks are using that they are HAPPY with. -- :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Peter L. I'm using HP PSC 2110 which works like a charm on 9.0. HTH. -- Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south. Disclaimer: Any errors in spelling, tact, or fact are transmission errors."

I've got an HP 2210 that also works well via Samba from both SuSE 8.2 and 9.0. I have mine attached to my wife's Windoz system since she does most of the printing. - -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/y6Bq+wA+1cUGHqkRAlb6AJ9Y1Qz8+1WljbF25pwtFJS2f1HZOgCggKPs 7BrH6agWIpAuTx41oa+uMSg= =eacM -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I can heartily recommend Kyocera lasers - fairly cheap to buy and pretty much the cheapest to run (under 1p per page; how much under depends on the printer!). They all support PCL and also do postscript compatibility very cheaply. I will agree with this. I have a number of Kyocera printers at work/home and have never had any real problems with them. They are far cheaper to run than the HP printers and the print quality is as good as if not better. I also believe they are more reliable than the HP laserjets we have had in the past. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
I've been using an HP Photosmart 7350 with no problems. It's actualy acting as the network (samba) printer for my whole family. A bit pricey as inkjet printers go, but we wanted a good photo printer and it certainly does the job. Performs under SuSE 8.2 flawlessly. On Monday 01 December 2003 12:00 pm, Peter L. Berghold wrote:

_most_ epson printers are supported very well. I print excellent photos from my Stylus Photo 925 using the gimp-print drivers in cups. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org
I have support for my Epson Action Lazer 1500. As It has several emulations I use the HP 3 Si . I think you will find most epsons have both native setups and HP emulations. I got a rebuilt HP 5L laserprinter. I am very happy with it. The site for it is WWW.printercare.de I don't remember the price but it was about 50% of the cheapst new printer at the time. I'm running an HP Deskjet 5650 and I've been totally happy with it. It's perfect for home/small office use. It was fairly inexpensive, costing around $200 USD. Hope this helps. Jesse

I'll toss in my 2c on this one. I'm installing a Brother MFC 9700 with the NC8100h ethernet adapter. It supports HP JetDirect printing, fax-to-e-mail, e-mail-to-fax, scan-to-e-mail, e-mail-to-print, etc. I don't know if it does ALL the permutations of those protocols, but it seems to be a fully functional LAN Multi-Function Center. All my computers on the LAN will be able to scan, fax, print, and receive electronic copies of faxes. The control panel is through an embedded web server on the printer, so any computer on the network can change its configuration (with a password, I presume). I found the MFC 9700 refurbished for about $300. Unfortunately, it's DOA and awaiting service, so that's something to consider. The good news is that Brother is cooperating nicely so far. The NC8100h is nearly as expensive as the printer itself. For a home office connected to other home offices, the network adapter is a no-brainer. The functionality (assuming I'll achieve it after service on my DOA machine) is outstanding. Regards.
