I'm in the market for an internal DL DVD Burner for SUSE 10.0. If anyone who has one that's running nicely on SUSE 10.0 would be willing to post make and model, I'd be grateful. Note: I'm aware of: http://cdb.suse.de/searchForm.php but a search for "CD Writer" and "10.0" returns "no products found." A search for just "CD Writer" returns about 158, so who knows. TIA.

I've got a Philips dvdr1640p in this machine that works quite nicely. I've also got an LG in another machine that I have no trouble with. I think that for the most part dvd burners that include dual layer support work out of the box. Now if I could just find lightscribe software for linux, I pick up one of those burners.. Thanks. Don't see that particular model for sale right now, but I'll take a flier with one of the Lite-Ons, since I have an external single-layer of that make that works fine.

That would beat my current "scotch tape and sharpie" method.

That would beat my current "scotch tape and sharpie" method. I have 2 Lite-On DL one with, and one with-out lightscribe, and a Plextor DL all three work flawlessly in Linux. Yes it would be nice to have software to label disks. But I find it very hard to find decent blank Light-scribe disks, both CD, and DVD, there are several brands I refuse to buy from again.

By flawlessly I am assuming burning Dual Layer media? I have found all kinds of problems on drives when burning dual-layer media. They play back on some drives and not on others. The original d/l SUSE media seems to work on drives that don't playback what I burned. The main problem is that the media isn't recognized on some drives as bootable media although the original is, sigh. It would be interesting to hear what media you avoid or don't like so that I can leverage off of that when buying D/L media?

NEC ND-3520A dual layer drive and Memorex DL DVD+R 2.4x 8.5GB blanks. Never had a problem with the archives being readable on any other type of DVD drive. Numerous copies of SUSE 9.3, 10.0 and 10.1 from boxed set DVDs for friends and relatives. Haven't had any problems with single layer DVD-/+R or DVD+RW made on this burner being readable/writable on other DVD drives either. I recommend http://www.cdfreaks.com for information on your drive and firmware updates. Could be that's all you need to get your drive working properly. Stan

If this happens lower your burn speed. -- CWSIV
