[opensuse] Missing "middle" of ebay pages in Firefox
I'm running FF 55.0.1 64-bit under opensuse 42.2. This happens with a number of kernels. The middle, the descriptive, illustrative part of the ebay pages is missing. It happens wherever I'm logged in or not for all pages. The framing, the top, the pricing, and the scrollable alternative at the bottom are visible. That tabs for 'description' and 'shipping' are there and if I press the 'shipping" tab all the shipping info and stuff is there as I'd expect. But if I press the 'description' tab I get the box "Item Description" and the table there in but below that just BLANK SPACE where there should be further illustrations and description, all the way down, scroll, scroll scroll, until the "Questions and answers about this item". It didn't used to be like this. If I try Chromium or Qupizilla or Konqueror there isn't this blank space. In the mean time I've regressed to 52.3 but its not making a lot of difference. There is still the 'missing middle'. So I'm now back to 45.8 to and the 'middle is no longer missing. That broke a whole pile of plugins that only worked with later versions, so I'm going to work my way forward disabling those each in turn singly. TOMORROW! I've seen FF extensions create this type of behavior before; for instance, Privacy Badger was breaking certain pages even when selecting "Disable Privacy Badger for This Site". I've also seen situations where two extensions were creating a similar problem with a page not being rendered properly which can make troubleshooting difficult when you start disabling extensions one by one and thought you had it narrowed down to only one extension. You can try running FF from a terminal in safe mode and see if the problem resolves or not: `firefox -safe-mode`
As a side note, no problem here with eBay pages being rendered properly with FF 52.3.0 on Leap 42.3. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well I've not just globally disabled that but also removed it and restarted, to no avail. I had my suspicius, but ...

Ah, yes, but the approach I'm taking is to disable them all and enable them one at a time The thing is that in late version FF they get tagged "legacy". Even so, with all of them disabled the problem persists! or I'm missing something. I've tried disabling all extensions and the problems still exists with 55. I've looked at the source code of the relevant eBay pages and there in the middle is an <iframe>. That refers to a ebage "dll", which i gather is URl that executes its paramenter list. I follow that I get to another page that includes an <iframe> over again. I haven't followed that. So the problem might be with <iframe> indirection rendering. later: I create a new 'test' profile from scratch, no plugins at all. The ebay pages render OK. So even having certain plugins loaded but disabled makes a difference!
As a side note, no problem here with eBay pages being rendered properly with FF 52.3.0 on Leap 42.3.
What other extensions do you have ? Are any of them marked 'legacy'? -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

None of the add-ons I have are marked as 'legacy'. The ones I have installed are: uBlock Origin, NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, Canvas Defender, Flagfox and Self-Destructing Cookies. You may want to have a look at this page: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/Overlay_Extensions I'm using FF 52.3.0 which is the current version for Leap 42.3 that comes from the OSS repo. According to the above web page, starting with FF 53, "no new legacy add-ons will be accepted on addons.mozilla.org (AMO) for desktop Firefox and Firefox for Android" and "Starting from Firefox 57, only extensions developed using WebExtensions APIs will be supported on Desktop Firefox and Firefox for Android." So it's not until FF 57 that extensions which developers fail to port over to the WebExtensions API will not work anymore. One other bit of information I gleaned from the above linked page which may or may not have something to do with your issue, is: "Even before Firefox 57, changes coming up in the Firefox platform will break many legacy extensions." And lastly, it appears that FF 55 is the first release from Mozilla that flags non-WebExtension add-ons as 'Legacy': http://techdows.com/2017/05/firefox-55-flags-non-webextension-add-ons-legacy... and some further reading: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/08/01/noscripts-migration-to-webextensi... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I can make out you have nothing there, not even the framing. No I don't mean that.

basic, that's an ambigious statement. Do you mean that this is (a) how the screen looks with theat version when you try to display a ebay page with that version and some version of DownThem all (a1) enabled, or (a2) loaded at all and it doens't matter if it is eanabled ro disabled; or (b) that is the downloaded result of using DownThemAll for a page that displays fully and correctly? Big *SIGH* I'd really like to use Chromium, but lets face it, Firefox has a lot going for it in the way of plugins that do nifty things, and many of them don't exist with Chromium. I have about 140 tabs in my primary window, about 400 in my secondary window. My primary window has 10 groups with about another 100 tabs spread across them. I might try breaking my secondary window into groups, but there deosn't seem to be a way to simply move groups between windows. If you know of one that doesn't involve individual copy/paste please let me know. Groups are wonderful; they let me do work/project focus. Compartmentalization and all that. The second window lets me open a url without interfering with my work group. I can't see how to convert this kind of workflow, compartmentalization, to Chromium. If anyone knows, has suggestions a to the HOW, please let me know. Thanks.

What 'groups' are you referring to? Do you mean the 'Tab Groups' extension, that continues the functionality previously provided by the default tab groups option that was withdrawn from Firefox? If so, the developer said that the changes coming in FF57 or thereabouts would probably render that extension no longer functional anyway. OTOH, I think it may be that same version of Firefox where this new Container functionality is set to land, which might better provide the kind of configuration you're looking for. I forget whether that's a definite upcoming new feature or just something that's in experimental testing. gumb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, that is what I'm referring to. I'm aware of that announcement.

Could you give me a pointer, please, where I could see this in action?
