Konqueror + AnimGifs = CPU hog?
Hey all, SuSE 8.2 Pro, Athlon XP2000+, 756MB DDR Ram. SuSE 9.0 Pro, Athlon XP1800+, 512MB DDR Ram. Using Konqueror, galeon, etc to view pages on http://www.livejournal.com [specifically, the blogs :)] results in up to 100% constant CPU usage. Checking under top, and kde sys guard, X seems to be consuming most of it (70%) and konqueror most of the rest (25%). A lot of the pages contain a LOT of animgifs - up to 100x100 in size, although each under 40k. There is also provision for animgif mood icons which tend to be smaller, although accompany most posts. If I deselect "Autload images" and refresh, then no problem. If I then re-enable it and refresh, whoomp! there it is. I can leave it like that for ages and it doesn't settle. Does mean I don't have to have the central heating on as much ^_^. If I tell it to play animations "only once", then again, the problems disappear. It seems the refreshes are dragging down X. It just seems silly that it is updating stuff that isn't in the viewable area! Besides, with the speed of these processors, and the amount and type of RAM, should this *really* be happening? Anyway, any thoughts as to how I might even go about keeping the anims on, without killing performance so severely. And if I have missed anything reeeeally simple as a fix please feel free to point and laugh ;) [but tell me what I missed out :)]] Thanks, Jon
