Could anybody comment on this? Apache2 seems to work with https only if the port-based ssl vhost is placed inside the default-server directory. DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs" in /etc/apache2/default-server.conf goes with DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs" in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.conf when directing the browser to https://FQDN/squirrelmail. DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs" in /etc/apache2/default-server.conf does NOT go with DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail" in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.conf when directing the browser to https://FQDN. All I have done is copy /srv/squirrelmail to /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail. DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs" in /etc/apache2/default-server.conf does NOT go with DocumentRoot "/srv/squirrelmail" in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.conf when directing the browser to https://FQDN. All I have done is copy /srv/squirrelmail to /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail. I have come to this conclusion (?) with SuSE 9.0, comparing the functionality of Apache 1.3.28 and 2.0.48. With 1.3.28 all of the above alternatives work. Grateful for your thoughts on this.
