Hi Set the default in preferences, or start typing and select the search engine.
I got this bit right before posting my query. But this doesn't make sense and not intuitive - you have to now go to two different places for no real reason where before choosing and customising the engines was done in the one spot. Some developers require psychological tests I am pretty sure before they are allowed to be let loose on applications. No, I shut down all open windows and then opened a single one. Adblock Edge remains disabled in the mean time. If Adblock Plus can't be removed when desired, it has moved into the realm of crapware. You are frustrated, but disparaging Adblock Plus because you have failed to remove it in the face of other reporting success is counter-productive and unwarranted. Try "deactivate" Plus first, then installing Edge, then "deinstall/remove" Plus, that way worked for me. Go to your profile folder, (e.g. ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/) go into sub dir "extensions", remove "{d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}.xpi", restart Firefox. I'm using upstream[1] Firefox 36.0 64-Bit , I had no problem with disabling / removing Adblock Plus. What exactly does no longer work in Adblock plus? I'm with firefox 35.0 and as much as I can see it works. I have, for example, blocked several autmatically starting musicplayers, and this still works perfectly. I don't see g+ and fb buttons, unless I unblock a specific page... I was using the Nightly version of FF (Aurora) until a couple of months or so ago at which point I think the version number was #38. The current FF to which oS 13.2 was upgraded yesterday is #36. There was no such nonsense re the search engine in the Aurora so it is difficult to say whether this arse-around way of doing a search was done 'locally' or 'upstream'. This change came from upstream obviously. Why would we fiddle with that thing at openSUSE?
