I don't get that option anyway...I'm running KDE 2.1.2 Why does the artsd have to auto-suspend anyway? It isn't that intrusive (except when the bl00dy thing locks up /dev/dsp and you can't alter the delay!) Tim Harrell

This is because it takes 60 seconds for the artsd to start sleeping after not being used. You can change this setting in kde to 5 seconds if you want.
Or just use the artsd plugin for xmms.
Thanks! I changed in Control Centre-Sound server-Auto suspend if idle to 2 secs and mpg123 works fine as well as xmms now.
I dont notice the 2 sec delay so I am very happy with kde 2.2 now:)
