Hello: This question is addressed only to KDE3 users or who knows KDE3. The question applies to KDE3 konqueror file manager in openSUSE Leap 15.1. When I open konqueror as file manager it takes very long time (~30 secs) until it populates its file window with files and directories (that is, becomes ready for use). I have plenty of files in my home folder but I still find this delay too long. If I open kde3 krusader file manager it starts and loads the same directory in one second without delay. What can cause is this delay and how could I make it shorter? Thanks in advance, Istvan

Not specific to KDE3 konqueror, but such a delay can be because the history or the favourite places (or something similar Konqueror may have) points to a network path that is not available now. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I've been sensing DNS or hostname or hosts trouble, but as yet have not followed up on it, that points in the networking direction Carlos pointed, not just in 15.1, which I haven't booted since February, but across possibly all supported releases, on several installations. Just starting MC on a vtty, which should be instantaneous, has taken several seconds lately in some cases. So have other procedures/apps involving networking. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. There is something else happening there. When I click on /usr/lib64 or my C source directories (both have about 3700 files each in them), it loads is roughly 1 sec. I have yet to ever have to wait for konqueror to load file. I use View -> Tree View, or Detailed List View. If you are using another view mode, (icon view, or multi column view) with 24+ pixel icons where a thumbnail must be generated, then I could see it taking a few seconds. There is also a setting where you save each directories view preference. I always force all directories to use the same tree view so there is nothing saved or stored. Never had any issue. Let me know what your settings are and we can go from there. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
