After doing an online update on my 9.2 system, on one user only, I can not launch any browser or email program. I ran firefox from a terminal and get the following: harry@linux:~> firefox --sync (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 204 (gdk_drawable_get_depth): assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkwindow-x11.c: line 2510 (gdk_window_set_back_pixmap): assertion `pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) == gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 204 (gdk_drawable_get_depth): assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkwindow-x11.c: line 2510 (gdk_window_set_back_pixmap): assertion `pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) == gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 204 (gdk_drawable_get_depth): assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkwindow-x11.c: line 2510 (gdk_window_set_back_pixmap): assertion `pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) == gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 204 (gdk_drawable_get_depth): assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkwindow-x11.c: line 2510 (gdk_window_set_back_pixmap): assertion `pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) == gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 204 (gdk_drawable_get_depth): assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed (Gecko:6640): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkwindow-x11.c: line 2510 (gdk_window_set_back_pixmap): assertion `pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) == gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed *** loading the extensions datasource The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)'. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) I am not sure what this means, and why only one user seems to be affected. Any ideas? Harry G

rpm -qa --queryformat '%{INSTALLTIME}\t%{INSTALLTIME:date}\t%{NAME}\n' | sort -g | cut -f 2- all on one line of course. This will show the newest at the end of the list. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

sneaky. I had a look and it seems I had done this: Fri 22 Apr 2005 09:25:40 BST gtk-qt-engine It was at version 0.6cvs something or other. I've downgrade this to gtk-qt-engine-0.5-9.3 and life has returned to normal. What is the best way to downgrade? Can it be done via Yast, or should I download the rpm? Harry G

I did it in Yast. Go to install/remove software and do a search for gtk. Look for gtk-qt-engine and see what version is available and what's installed. It was in highlighted in red on my system. I right clicked on the package and chose 'Upgrade'. Accept that and it should be ok. The SuSE watcher tool just tried to upgrade that component again though - I had to tell it not too :( Cheers, George -- George Barnett Reality Engineer m: (+44) 778 884 7205 e: george@alink.co.za If a group of _N persons implements a COBOL compiler, there will be _N-1 passes.
