[opensuse] Does automatic updates work in 11.0?
Does the automatic online update module is YaST work in openSUSE 11? I know in 10.3 it send system mail to the configured user every time it ran, it now does not do this, and today there is a recommended update "Repository | Name | Version | Category | Status ----------------------+----------+---------+-------------+------- openSUSE-11.0-Updates | timezone | 46 | recommended | Needed" This just made me even wonder if it works, or there for looks. -- "We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than only freedom can make security more secure." Adam, A few days ago there was a discussion about this bug, but I didn't save it and don't recall the resolution there. However, updates using "Yast-Online Update" and "zypper up" work great for security updates. If you want to update all packages to the latest version, then: Yast->Software Management->Packages->All Packages->Update if Newer Version Available and zypper up -t package work great. -- David C. Thanks for the reply, yea I know YOU and zypper works the only reason I set up the automatice online updates is that I am not always able to get access to the machine (both physically and remotely) and knowing that any security updates that gets released makes me feel better about leaving the machine up. Is this issue in the bugzilla? -- "We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than only freedom can make security more secure." Karl Popper

? I enabled Automatic Online Updates yesterday and it works fine for me. In /var/log/messages you will see: Jun 27 10:33:01 rennboot /usr/sbin/cron[5943]: (root) CMD (zypper --quiet up -y -t patch --skip-interactive) and as root you will get mails like: The following packages are going to be upgraded: pcre-32bit pcre-devel pcre compiz-kde4 boost-doc boost-devel boost The following NEW patches are going to be installed: pcre compiz-kde4 boost [2K Continue? [YES/no]: yes and the packages will be installed afterwards. (pcre and boost are not yet released, but in the local test queue for 11.0) Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The only reason I asked was because I am use to 10.3 sending a message through the mail program even if there was nothing for it to do and in 11.0 there is nothing. -- "We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than only freedom can make security more secure." Then there was nothing to update. ;) We are not releasing updates everyday. ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
