I had updated KDE4 to the most recent version 4.01. Now when I start it , none of the widgets (icons?) are shown. There are just items containing the message that the object cannot be displayed. In addition there is no wallpaper or taskbar. One possibility that comes to mind is that I never removed prior versions before installing a new version. What would be the best way to remove what is there so that a new install would be on fresh ground (so to speak). Thanks for any comments... Package managment should automatically do that for you.

First thing you could try is killing your kde4 configuration placed in ~/.kde4. Best way to do so is probably to rename the folder, so you still the configs you want to keep for a restore. The switch from the KDE:KDE4 repository to the KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop repository has started a new sequqnece of package release numbers. So you must update all packages of the KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop even when the already installed package seems to be newer.

In Yast you can set the filter to the KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop repoitory. Then you can choose to update all shown packages disrgarding their package version and release. On a similar topic, I see a dozen or so kde 4 packages that have a version like 3.93.svn. They cannot be installed. For example, kde4-fsview. They seem to be in the repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ Should they be there? I am guessing that they existed when this was made, but they are not needed now, and there is no newer version to 'hide' these. I ignore them. They are part of FTP tree, so they will hang there next few years :-) -- Regards, Rajko. See http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sure they can, you just cannot mix them with the KDE 4.0 release packages.

They cannot be removed from the repos but are obsoleted by KDE 4.0 packages. Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
