I have, and here is the solution I found, namely using the previous method of sound card detection in the /usr/X11R6/bin/startkde file (the attached contains the "new" implementation that won't work, and the "old" implementation that does work, which I pulled out of an old startkde file:

But I have heard that support for /dev/sndstat is going away in the 2.4 kernel because of its limited functionality. It will not work with the new Beta SB Live drivers.

I imagine SuSE will want to address this matter, as well as a seeming problem with one of grep lines in the startkde file. The line

grep: i: No such file or directory

also comes up in my KDE start-up messages...never did before. Then again, maybe I'm the only one with these problems?
