I read in the ReiserFS site that you cannot use it with gcc 2.95 which is currently distributed with SuSE 7.0. Quote from the FAQ section: " Can I use gcc 2.95 with reiserfs ? We think no, but mainly because the rest of the kernel has troubles. " What exactly does it mean, that I cannot compile source programs? Or whatever else? TIA Maurizio

These days many people who compile their own kernels, myself included, use gcc 2.95.2. There are no known problems with it. I suspect Reiser are just being very cautious and that if you try it with gcc 2.95.2 it'll work just fine. The option is to use a different version of the compiler, although I'm not sure which other versions SuSE provide with (or for) 7.0. The officially blessed version for kernel work is 2.91.66, so that's probably the one to use for ReiserFS. Me, I'd use 2.95.2 and stop worrying about it.
