I don't get it! (there seems to be a lot of things I don't get as of late) For some reason when I start something and background it from a xterm, something like netscape or xemacs, and then close the xterm, the other apps also close. I am using fvwm2. Anyone know what is going on?
This is not something related to a specific term program or window manager. Instead of just running the command, try 'nohup command' (without the quotes). This means that the program should not die when the user "hangs up" on the terminal that started the program. One useful example: nohup xterm & to start a new xterm, which won't die when you log out of the first one. The shell started in that xterm kills all the programs started from it when it exits. To prevent that start that shell with the login option: $ xterm -ls You can set that in the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm X resource file also, see the man page for the resource name. -- Rafael Herrera Laboratory for Computational Neuroscience University of Pittsburgh http://www.neuronet.pitt.edu/~raffo -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
