[SLE] ??? modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-6 ???
I have recompiled my kernel, one of the things I did was compile in a number of things that where modules. How I am getting this error in /var/log/message and when I boot up: modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-6 What does this mean and how do I fix it? -- Sam Carleton ------------ http://www.bigfoot.com/~scarleton (Homepage) http://www.uptimes.net/hostinfo.html?hid=1218 (Linux Box) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
check /etc/conf.modules to see what 6 is. There is also a document in the
kernel source tree that explains each one...

The file is: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt which shows char-major-6 to be something to do with your parallel ports. Do you have the correct modules for parallel ports? Or did you compile parallel support into the kernel (in which case you can just add: alias char-major-6 off in /etc/conf.modules)?
