Don't know if this has been discussed already. The ability to handle rpm with a sort of Yast fronend embedded in konqueror is great. Quite perfect, but it is quite annoying when a remote rpm is clicked. I'd like to choose between installing, as it goes now, and a simple download, which is actually not possible: in such cases, you have to go back and manually download the file. Comments? There are some chances that apt will be used in Suse in extensive manner? It would be great to click on an rpm, and have all rpms needed for dependency downloaded and installed as well! -- Andrea Negro andrea@alessandria.linux.it ICQ 25458773

The file that gets downloaded is stored in the /tmp directory, unfortunately, if you "navigate away" from this [by pressing the "back" button for instance] the /tmp file is deleted. So what you can/should do is this: 1) when the RPM is finally loaded [meaning you can navigate the buttons and see the "file list" for instance] open a terminal window 2) in the terminal window, switch to your /tmp storage area: cd /tmp/kde-<username> 3) issue an "ls *.rpm" command. This will hopefully show only one ".rpm" file in the temporary directory -- that is the one you've downloaded. Using the name in your konquerer window, COPY the file to whereever you intended to download it, i.e., cp konquerer.<randomstring>.rpm /home/<username>/download/<actual>.rpm 3a) if there is more than one ".rpm" file, look at file sizes (ls -l) or use "lsof" [open files] to determine which of the "rpm's" is the one you're looking at in the other window. -- Yet another Blog: http://osnut.homelinux.net

I find that holding the SHIFT key while clicking on an .rpm file works quite nicely to force a download... - -- Mitch Thompson, San Antonio TX // WB5UZG Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) http://home.satx.rr.com/mlthompson Independent Amsoil Dealer http://amsdealer.webhop.biz GPG: BBDA 3A2A 4483 BD0D 7CED B8A9 D183 C8F6 B0AF 66AE wget -O - http://home.satx.rr.com/mlthompson/pubkey.gpg | gpg --import - -- "There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iQIXAwUBPmSbadGDyPawr2auFAJMxAf7BJLBa8KnM0+UIu4i2nOPGVjAq4fk7PtR OpcMHGf3LIxNfMigI6NGqV0XrqNbyoW8zbFbZuEF+vAtzm35kWgjUcOZYGotWsH6 s29YJ5mfniLVJRcAJH7Aik5CKsf6c4BCW8S7b6wQSpJW0CRfnqQW5ko0CZUMhQaT adowSUPO17TRnY/Y+HnJTF5Afs2MqmUXjZk2arQz1/pgpfWaMfLDblZdsQjUUdkV L2PmwOOIoA1zmMI/ehhlbws8xjd7mGHchsfLtbjjtHuZ3tJMz3JVNfaS7kd0QRLZ TD1wMm0RCywcJ6tL3DFsJeFvE6aw1y6+4dLVXzmWmxnXq0ABGzG75Af/ZgyBNW41 Iy/52Ii1zEVuuvcjK7K50qHp4v3ddpjI9ekcIADe/bFXhdSv6ATzdLlBNIkEicjV e9insFoB5kf7ZMWAAkgdBga0MYnkLn752DBU7biNqbQvpL3gBxFEIXQUNPelJz0N anMsC7zJ0juP+XmodOiIuKNeAcNpT+Sq7retf1cyO5VWTO5CEN2lCRclpGwUGc6x iryIuSKRxPJ20EhEc2Ch6LpLWuv9ziymJbdv3FnqexkbHcXAaiqnYAv4Ly/M4ixj pH/V5swlf+oAITY62QWsSlCyjJDmt7KqPiEie+pOuvT08w41T41K87cgYm5UNUgn U0p2hSmf+/YR9g== =t470 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Agree, but I think from an usability point of view. The UI must be as intuitive and simple as possible. If you hold the shift, you have to know this in advance, but there is no hint. Furthermore, if you forget this, you simply click, then wait for the download of the rpm (which could be big), and then you realize you cannot save the file. Not to talk about searching for the file in tmp dir: this is something a normal user would never do. IMO adding a button 'save the package', or 'save to disk' would be a good usability improvement... -- Andrea Negro andrea@alessandria.linux.it ICQ 25458773

Agreed. Unless one RTFMs for their browser of choice, the only other way to know about the "Shift-Click" option is those web sites that tell you to do so. It should also be fairly easy to put mimetype entries in a browser config to tell it to download files ending in .rpm, .tgz, .zip, and so forth. I never understood why Netscape (and probably others) associate .rpm with Realplayer. - -- Mitch Thompson, San Antonio TX // WB5UZG Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) http://home.satx.rr.com/mlthompson Independent Amsoil Dealer http://amsdealer.webhop.biz GPG: BBDA 3A2A 4483 BD0D 7CED B8A9 D183 C8F6 B0AF 66AE wget -O - http://home.satx.rr.com/mlthompson/pubkey.gpg | gpg --import - -- "There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iQIXAwUBPmXlbdGDyPawr2auFAL8Kgf+LBU5atKOn3Pnq/BQ9A0JsFISix0K9Rrf O2E+iStkvF7xxwKivtQS5QP49WS+h5gYr/hM7MvWwkJxkAvv3P5pc3D4j/Mi3mVa mHSexA3fDlFYYofs17yECDAisOOVAWVtGwUSh7T7jscrs8gkO24cir4zZu5BDeXu 0SwAlRZmJsflOeeRMI/z0Gav4eXVUIewf6+2IB7P1jgYHjMegbNwVNU9mFR2jGHD wVbC28qLgaq20OhLLwhb6smy/qTN4p9MEMJN+3w//TUts3bU2shIAF8kE2BFm5ke cM6E0BP7sxFqk2N1ZZk+7rhUkHEktdOqWFJM2mWTjgRYaqugYejCmAf+PUbPdDtF dFVQQpqATKvGYtyQGapyhpHyDsVoBmUSMMnckWvMNcPIygeHie1uZKdcuUvMrM7R YnXCFAFcPID4BQMPrAqJYXMAyGahygU+DUYOjN+/zlMVjr0/BjZI3Ah7PaGwg0aJ mRBKOgqGbCyGPiryX+We1LyQQhdXyXS1ZWZUKJjlHKNdlaz20Zc18YPH79nDShir wJYMbvI6rchB1h5kcvhelKAii4OvQ5S0a1noG2M0xOiz/8mTMoqo3eQQ0OCsx76t /KNj6GQHEYoBq1VPzewR6NUN8pkuh+zipN8Uq2Xm3nJNa7zA796Np2gXu5nKVXwC 5Q/Srh+kC7beAQ== =Wm3W -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
