[opensuse] Problem installing package update - curl-7.42.1-2.47.1.x86_64
Hi folks, I am getting errors updating and I can not resolve it neither via zypper nor YOU. Never had anything like this before. This is a 13.1 (64 bit) system that was previously upgraded from 12.3 (I think more than one year ago). I also upgraded KDE to version 4.11.5 back then. The system has been running fine for the past year and has always been fully updated till this error. Here is if the output of zypper patch (sorry for the long post, I'm not sure the info is all necessary). Any help sorting this out would be appreciated. I never do. I never need to. I RTFM'd back when and found <quote> The metadata get refreshed either automatically or on user request. An automatic refresh takes place right before reading metadata from the database if the auto-refresh is enabled for the repository and the metada is reported to be out of date. If the auto-refresh is disabled, the repository will only be refreshed on user request. </quote> so I set the auto-refresh on *all* the repositories. Saves time, automates things. Makes the computer do the work. :-) YMMV. Except that *you* always have to wait for the refresh, whereas it can be called when needed if configured that way. I prefer to call for a refresh and if I don't see an indication something has changed, no need to go farther. No I don't. Not always. <quote> To delay the up-to-date check (and thus the automatic refresh) for a certain number of minutes, edit the value of the repo.refresh.delay attribute of ZYpp config file (/etc/zypp/zypp.conf). This means, zypper will not even try to download and check the index files, and you will be able to use zypper for operations like search or info without internet access or root privileges. </quote.
Might one say it boils down to preference with pluses and minuses on both fronts?
Indeed. If you RTFM you'll find there is an amazing amount that can be configured. So much so that when I encounter the few programs where the developer thought he (or she) knew what was best for you and <strike>prevents</strike fails to provide the capability to alter such preferences I get a little .... peeved. -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You only have to wait for it if it was not done recently. /You/ know how to know you have to refresh, but as a default for most users, it is better to leave auto refresh on. Any way, I understand that the refresh first checks to see if the metadata timestamp has changed; if it hasn't, it doesn't waste time there. If it has, then better download it. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Hi folks,
I am getting errors updating and I can not resolve it neither via zypper nor YOU. Never had anything like this before. This is a 13.1 (64 bit)

Try a "zypper ref".
Thanks Carlos for your reply. I did a zypper ref and then again zypper patch --> same result as before. The output of "locate libmetalink.so.3" --> no output.
So I guess I am missing that file. From your commands and output it looks like I need the rpm of libmetalink3-0.1.2-4.1.2.x86_64 Is that correct? And if so, any suggestions on where to get it? Thanks, Gustav.

Looks like you have disabled the OSS repo.
Yes, that was it. With my eye problems I missed it and must have inadvertently uncheced it, I don't know when. ThanksCarlos, for taking the time and showing me the way to track it down, Gustav -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
