Tumbleweed: Can’t login, loops me back to login screen
Hello, After an update yesterday I found that I’m stuck at the login screen. After typing my password the screen goes black for a few seconds then I’m back at the login again. The same applies for root. I'm using latest Tumbleweed (20220613) with X11. Wayland doesn't help either. I can login using IceWM though. Any idea how I can solve this? Please check your /usr/share/xsessions directory. You will notice that your WM's desktop file is missing.

If so, why not let
$ ldd /usr/bin/startplasma-x11 | grep "not found"
offer some tips?
The above command returns nothing. ll /usr/bin | grep startplasma-x11 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 157984 Jun 13 14:35 startplasma-x11 Regards, Martin -- UTSI: http://users.telenet.be/tos4ever/utsi.htm Atari FTP-site: ftp://kurobox.serveftp.net:3021 Running openSUSE Leap 15.4 / KDE 5.24.4

Now then.
How about check the /var/log/localmessages, like this?
# cat /var/log/localmessages | grep sddm
There is no such thing like localmessages. I've var/log/messages The result of the command can be found here: <URL: https://paste.opensuse.org/42309922> I was hoping the large update of yesterday (3.000 + packages) would have resolve the problem but alas it's still there. Regards, Martin

You've got the clue.
A clue it was indeed. It turned out the installed libKF5KCMUtils (5.95.0-251.1) came from /KDE:/Frameworks5/openSUSE_Factory/ instead of Tumbleweed. After installation of the tumbleweed (5.94.0-1.2) libKF5KCMUtils-packages everything worked as before. Many thanks. I owe you one. Martin

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not a command line expert. But indeed now I'm thinking about it, it's surely not right. Regards, Martin
