Has anyone played around with Falcon's Eye (NetHack)? I know there are about 4 different versions of NetHack that come with SuSE 9.0, but the Falcon's Eye user interface has been a favorite of mine for quite a while now. (I've been running the Windows version up until now.) There are some changes I would like to make to the configuration files, that when I use Windows, has been trivialy easy to make. Everything is under one folder, with the Falcon's Eye config files in plain text, and the NetHack config files in a different subfolder, also in plain text... (Some of the changes I want to make are to use half-height walls (or transparent walls), change screen resolution sise, and if I can figure it out, turn *on* the place where it asks for your character's name (instead of just defaulting to your login/user name), and to turn on the Top 10 Scores...) Also, I'm curious where the character files are kept, so I can back them up... Thanks again! Krikket (And who knows, perhaps I'll someday get beyond level 10 (Main levels, after also having gone through the mines)...)

I can not even start nethack (suse 8.2). cer@nimrodel:~> nethack.gnome /usr/games/nethack.gnome: line 22: /nethack.gnome: No such file or directory cer@nimrodel:~> nethack.tty.gnome /usr/games/nethack.tty.gnome: line 63: /nethack.gnome: No such file or directory The line in cuestion has: exec $HACK "$@" falconeye does start, but I get no sound: ......................ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:976:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy Can't open pcm device 'default'. Couldn't open ALSA pcm device (`s') Mm... I tried the other day, and I could not move the figure, not response to the mouse. I had to kill it. Today it works, and I'm even geting some sound (the cat meows), even though I get the alsa error. Strange. And it uses a _lot_ of CPU, even when I'm doing nothing... I had to "killall -9 falconseye" to kill it. Not a very good program, I'd say... :-( -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
