Recognized but unusable hp 1109w printer on Leap 15.2 up to date
Setup in yast or hplip both see and recognize printer but all text pages and attempts to use this printer fail. I have followed the usual methods and was able to install another older printer which works to a degree random out of paper faults on older printer. I tried different usb ports and still no go. I have no idea what to try next. The ppd files are installed. On another system with drive issues this printer did work. netcat: connect to localhost port 631 (tcp) failed: Connection refused cwsiv@localhost:~> sudo zypper install cups-filters No update candidate for 'cups-filters-1.25.0-lp152.1.8.x86_64'. I called HP and though they are clueless on Linux I was directed to another in HP. Sourceforge has a replacement hplip with about 20 dependencies which made it work. I'm very interested in your dependency issue, because the hplip is python program, as you know. Please inform me of the issue in detail. Thanks. --- ┏━━┓彡 Masaru Nomiya mail-to: nomiya @ galaxy.dti.ne.jp ┃\/彡 ┗━━┛ Think. -- The IBM slogan --

Why are you doing this? Instead, point your web browser to <http://localhost:631> If that doesn't work, stop there and solve that. Do: systemctl status cups You should get "enabled" and "active (running)"
cwsiv@localhost <mailto:cwsiv@localhost>:~> sudo zypper install cups-filters No update candidate for 'cups-filters-1.25.0-lp152.1.8.x86_64'. The highest available version is already installed.

Wrong. In Linux, even in text mode, the printers are always "exported". All of them. CUPS is a network thing.
Enable the publish shared printers connected to this system opetion in the server settings using the printing administration tool. To start this too select Sustem --> Administration --> Print Settings from the main menu.
I assume that is some KDE crap. Ignore it.
cat troubleshootApril27.txt | grep "not installed" 'foomatic': ['package foomatic is not installed'], 'hpijs': ['package hpijs is not installed'],
Who is generating that file? Show instead the log files from CUPS. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)
