can anyone confirm if it is true that you need windows to sync the zaurus pda and to upgrade software into it? (sounds absurd from sharp they would make a linux pda to only sync with windows

Does sound a bit strange doesn't it. I was just having a look at this one .... http://www.infomart.co.in/ which looks as though it does all the same things and might be cheaper. Thanks -- Richard www.sheflug.co.uk

well in fact it isnt same. 203Mhz Strong Arm processort on Zaurus. 160Mhz SH3 on Kaii Zaurus - SD card slot. No same luxury on Kaii. Meaning that you at mercy of power sucking monster called CF network cards. Linksys one drains battery down after being up for few hours. Also there is no true aerial connection with CF network cards (i am not counting 300ft range as true aerial) But there is SD card for Palms already that does true aerial 8) Zaurus - has keyboard. Kaii - doesnt. Zaurus will come (in retail) with Hancom office. Dont see same for Kaii. Zaurus already has open source kernel version. Couldnt say same for Kaii. And last but not least - no offense but i trust Sharp quality somewhat more that some strange company from India. Not to mention that on this JavaOne Zaurus developer edition has been selling for 199$ 8) Cheers, Sergei

Yes, I know the fella who helped Sharp to get the Zaurus together. So, don't need any help with understanding the specifications. I also helped someone to put a cut down version of Debian GNU/Linux into an iPAQ last year. Took a whole week. Thanks -- Richard
Kinda like when I bought that LinuxDA $89 handheld. You get what you payfor, except I like to think I got like $5 out of it. Sure it's linux, but there aren't any apps out for it. Only thing I've used it for is the calculator for algebra at school. (It has the "e" key!) Oh and I've played a couple of games to pass some time. You dont need anything other than ssh/ftp to access Zaurus sitting on cradle or connected to network. Therefore Linux would work just fine. Any of them. Upgrade Flash ROM - may be - not sure about that one, since i didnt tried. I do recall that you have to format FC into Fat16 to do that, so it might be somewhat close to truth. Altough you might just upgrade bleeding kernel using open version, IMHO.
