Howdy,
I'm using VMware, and it's the most amazing thing I've seen since I first saw a mouse demonstrated in the 70's. It totally blew me away.
Windows 98, 2000 and NT all run better on VMware over linux than they do in a real computer. It's fantastic. But it's expensive. Something like $400 I think. I'm still in the trial mode with it, and it's been flawless for three weeks....I will have to make a decision in a week or so as the 30 days will be up.
On the down side, I tried to install the Vmware Express which is the cheapo version that will only do w95 and 98, and it's about $79 or something. The scripts were puking on install and I tried to get support from VMware and never heard back from them and eventually gave up.
But for sure the full blown version is killer.
If you could point me to Win4Lin, I would like to try it just to compare.
Very easy: www.win4lin.com. It will forward you to www.netraverse.com. Please keep me informed of the result! Patrick

Jyry, I'm pretty sure that NeTraverse does have support for 2.4.X kernels, but if you've built your own kernel, then their installer doesn't recognize 'your' kernel. Also, there has been some discussion of NeTraverse's new relationship with Redhat and how that might impact other distributions. However, downloads directly from kernel.org work, I am told. There is a set of patches to the kernel source code tree that I believe you can add, such that when you do a make xconfig you get an option to enable Win4Lin support. Once this is enabled, their installer will recognize your customized kernel and do the rest of the install. (So I'm told...) I confess I've done none of this, so it may require a little homework, but I know others have done it. Hello Patrick, Some good news for patching a kernel.org's 2.4.x kernel. I had a look at ftp://ftp.netravers.com/pub/win4lin/LatestKernels/PATCH and there they are: patches for generic 2.4.3 and 2.4.4 kernels -- placed there only on 30th May. Hey hoe, off we go.... --Jyry C:-( C:-/ C========8-O C8-/ C:-( On Thu, 31 May 2001, Mark W. Knecht wrote:

Same here! Puked everywhere. Just for fun....I installed 7.1 and VMware on a Pentium III 733 with only 64 megs of memory and installed W98 on the VMware. In short. Forget it!!!! 256 megs and up, is nice. Cheers Rich
