[opensuse] Is this natural? (only noticed a few minutes ago)
I downloaded a short time ago an iso file which I burnt using k3b onto a CD. When I inserted a blank CD for this purpose I got the "notification" wee-d-git showing me that a blank something was inserted and "asking" what I wanted to do with it: burn it with k3b or what? As usual, I simply ignored this "notification" and started k3b and burnt the iso (successfully :-) btw). All this was done a couple of hours ago and the newly created CD was safely stored away. Just now I went to do something else and noticed that the "notification" wee-d-git is still showing in the taskbar. So I looked at it and.....it is showing that I still have a blank CD-R in the drive and asking me which of the 2 options I want to use on it. And this "notification" wee-d-git isn't going away! (This whole thing is getting crazier by the day :-) .) Anybody else notice this behaviour from this "notification" wee-d-git? How much wee-d did you smoke before posting this Basil? What else were you burn-ing at the time? In all seriousness, I have actually see this happen in the past, the notification gets stuck if you launch something else that grabs the device before dismissing the notification, or using one of the options it offers. I know just enough about this to get in trouble, and not much more, but this may be an area that needs watching by our systemd/polkit/udisk/udisk2/etc.. gurus. One of the areas where the sysVinit/systemd/consolekit/noconsolekit transition is particularly murky is user session tracking/user device control/management. I have not kept up with all the names of the new tools currently in use on the various distros that control this wizardry, but I've ventured off into the deep-end of freedesktop.org working with Trinity not too long ago. The extent of my understanding is that as systemd is implemented and consolekit goes away and the various pieces change [1], the framework to provide user control to mount/unmount various hardware devices, etc. will have to be reworked due to the new tools having to take over for function that consolekit provided in the past. [2] A side-effect of this is that many apps like wee-d-git, etc. may have to update the way they check the status of the devices they monitor for setting indication just as Basil indicates. Like I said above, I know just enough about this to get in trouble, so I cannot be sure this even applies to wee-d-git, but in general this type issue is something to keep an eye on and report about when things like this happen that can't otherwise be explained. Dunno if it is synonymous with anything - I just made up the term yesterday as I was posting my msg. But as you would deduce I came up with the term 'wee-d-git' (tm) as an alternative to the word "widget" which was invented by those who you would not consider old enough to even use crayons or fingerpaint.

That you have never seen it doing this, doesn't mean anything. Perhaps it triggers with some software combination or external event. I have seen it a few times. That's Thunderbird connecting twice the same second to my postfix smtp server. Ah well, why didn't you say that you have some fang-dangled setup which is causing your problem but blaming it on Thunderbird? :-) Because it is Thunderbird fault. The logs prove it.
You mean that in Thunderbird's "SENT" folder there are 2 copies of the messages which you claim to have been sent twice? Or are you quoting from the logs of your faulty fang-dangled setup? :-) BC -- Using openSUSE 13.2, KDE 4.14.6 & kernel 4.0.0-1 on a system with- AMD FX 8-core 3.6/4.2GHz processor 16GB PC14900/1866MHz Quad Channel RAM Gigabyte AMD3+ m/board; Gigabyte nVidia GTX660 GPU -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, it happened again a short time ago when I burnt the iso of Plasma 5. That was 1/2 hour ago and the wee-d-git is still sitting there in the taskbar showing that I have a blank CD-R inserted. Try inserting another, then removing it... But why? Never had to do this until now. So what has caused this regression in the performance of oS 13.2? Just to find out if it does the trick. More clues. If it works, you get a trick to remove the notice. Not a real solution, just a trick.

Ugh! Forget coffee! Try tea - the way I (used to) make it: buy some Earl Grey tea; put it into a tea pot - teaspoon per person but if it is only you then make it at least 2 spoons; pour a glass of Southern Comfort (or Courvoisier, former preferred) into the pot and let it all stand for at least 15 minutes (or a bit longer); boil your water and pour into the pot and let the tea steep for normal time; drink; and enjoy! Har! This reminds me of a visit I had to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1969 when I drank a lot of "Elephant Walk" beer. I remember getting unusual headaches even after moderate consumptive sessions. Someone said the headaches came from formaldehyde used as a preservative in the tropical climate. I have no idea if this was true, but at least it made for a good story. FWIW, I just googled Elephant Walk Beer and nothing came up, but there are references to formaldehyde in beer as a preservative, especially in China. So go figure... As you would know, I posted this in offtopic but as you now refer to good stories about beer here I thought that India being so close to Sri Lanka it would be appropriate to now also mention it here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3023161/Caught-red-handed-Woman-urin...
