I'm trying to get the tftp server running. I have confirmed that the firewall allows tcp and udp packets through port 69. HERE is my tftp entry service tftp { socket_type = dgram protocol = udp wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -s /tftpboot/ disable = no } I don't see ANY activity on this. xinet is running if I do: telnet 1.2.3.4 69 I get "connection refused" yet I can't find anything in the /var/log/messages or /var/log/xinetd.log to indicate a problem. I'm at a complete loss what to do.

telnet uses tcp, while tftpd is a udp ftp server normally used to transfer boot images for netboot configurations. That's why it doesn't react to telnet You could try something like "netcat -u 1.2.3.4 69" to see if you get signs of life

Check your hosts.allow and hosts.deny files. I ran into a problem where these were blocking the tftp traffic.
