depmod and 2.4 in SuSe
Hello Do you know why depmod doesn't work with SuSe 7.0 or 7.1 with any 2.4 kernels. Only their RPM which is depmod version 2.4.1 seems to work. The depmod in 2.4.5 modutils gives me errors like: depmod version 2.4.5 depmod: Module /lib/modules/2.4.0-4GB/kernel/drivers/media/video/cpia_usb.o has an unknown version (2) usb_device table It is likely that the kernel structure has changed, if so then you probably need a new version of modutils to handle this kernel. Check linux/Documentation/Changes. It seems to be not able to create a modules.dep in the /lib/modules/ subdirectory. Well, when I fired off 'depmod -V' .. this is what I got. BTW..I installed the modutils and kernel RPM's that matched. zeus:/home/ben # depmod -V depmod version 2.4.2 zeus:/home/ben # I would just remove it all and start again. -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

There was a change relating to USB table format in release 2.4.2 of modutils. Or, so it says in the ChangeLog file in the sources. So it's possible that cpia_usb.o is using an incompatible format. If you don't need that driver, then remove it from your kernel configuration. FYI the modules.dep and friends get installed in /lib/modules/2.4.0-4GB/ PS. Why are you using modutils 2.4.5? The one that came with the installtion CDs (if you are running suse 7.1) should work fine. Don't change this core utilities just for the hell of it. The suse people tested the distro with those utilities, they do a very good job at that, so unless something is broken I would suggest you slow your pace. -- Rafael
The Docs said that the 2.4.1 that came installed needed upgrading for the new kernel to better than 2.4.2 Ruben On 2001.04.25 09:59:11 -0400 Rafael E. Herrera wrote: Brooklyn Linux Solutions CEO wrote:

The install the modutils-2.4.2-14 from SuSE, it's in their ftp site in the updates directory. -- Rafael
Can someone could tell me how I could synchronize my Server with Linux 6.4 with EST but with Daylight Changing? I could synchronize it with EST (Eastern Standard Time) But not with (Eastern Daylight Time) EDT. Any idea? Suggestions, comments? Thanks. Thanks --ed
Can someone could tell me how I could synchronize my Server with Linux 6.4 with EST but with Daylight Changing? I could synchronize it with EST (Eastern Standard Time) But not with (Eastern Daylight Time) EDT. Any idea? Suggestions, comments? Simply select a timezone definition that honors the DST convention. I'm using "US/Michigan" which currently uses DST, but did not for a few years back in the sixties, I think. I simply made that choice in yast as I installed. "EST5EDT" I think has EDT defined for all years. Simply edit

Why should a 2.4.2 version work and a 2.4.5 not?
It's really wierd
