RE: [SLE] gforce2 mx, a little smile is appearing.
Ok you want an x-server, we have an x-server you want a window manager we have that too. you want 3d stuff. hmm . this will take a bit more time but hey i can live without that for the mo. Graphics performance is pretty good. not as good as w2k but i guess theres some tweaking to do. ax2, Xfree86 -configure, xf86config, none of these produce a working XF86config file. i dont think the card is identified properly or something. whatever. I now have a linux setup that I can use. hooray expect more questions on sound usb etc now, dids -----Original Message----- From: tns01@free.fr [mailto:tns01@free.fr] Sent: 29 September 2000 23:54 To: dids Subject: Re: [SLE] gforce2 mx, a little smile is appearing. Hello dids, on Friday, September 29, 2000 at 23:31:32 +0100, you sat in front of your keyboard and wrote:
ok i took michaels XF86Config ( thanks Michael )
and then i edited it slightly
then i for some reason just type XFree86. Hey presto a hi res x-server.
so i tried startx. gives me an error about having a bad bin or something.
Have you done an update of your SuSE from a previous version to 7.0? If yes, I had a similar error and to solve it I had to edit the file /usr/X11R6/bin/startx changing xinit to xinit3x on the last line.
so i tried xinit -- /mypath/XFree86 and something is working ( bar missing window manager files )
Why oh why have i been following nvidias instructions to type XFree86 -configure ( which still doesnt work )
so, im off to bed,
I think we may have something here
although i still dont know why startx doesnt work.( operator error i
know )
thanks to all who have helped so far
