Pcmcia service error - memory_cs & SD card reader
I just bought an HP nx5000 refurb. It came with Windows and I promptly loaded 9.1 on it. The only problem(s) I have found are that the SD card reader does not work, and I get an error when I boot with my Kingston pcmcia IDE drive. The error I get is related to the memory_cs module not being found. If I boot without the card inserted, and later insert it, it works without error using the ide_cs module as it should be. A google turned up a couple german posts from Stefan. From what I can translate, it looks like I need to-do the below as root after the system boots:
killall cardmgr cardmgr
Indeed, this works. What I am wondering is what is causing this and is there a more elegant way to accomplish (i.e. the service still fails on every boot). Out of curiosity, I did try FC2 and it works flawlessly - not sure what is different in the pcmcia scripts. Also, the SD card reader does not work at all. I see that there is some preliminary support that can be used if patched 2.6.9 kernel is used. Anyone have any info on this? I assume the other HP laptops with these readers are similar. Can't imagine HP ships the SuSE preloaded nx5000 with the SD card broke but I guess they might have. Regards, Keith
