many others. So this is not really "it is pure crap". There have been (so I have been told) problems and bugs that are "by design error" (concerning especially annoying things like the "filter amnesia" and some others), and these are addressed by the rewriting. Once you search for a specific mail or attachment, I can guarantee you, if your mail is about 5 to 6 years of messages, it is very nice (as done by me just two days ago) to find the mail in question in about 20 seconds or less, just by querying the database.
For IMAP users, email indexes are often/usually maintained by the IMAP server (dovecot et al). With the imap index it probably takes a couple of seconds, without it, it took 11 seconds to search 57000 mails :-)
Anyway, what would be the issues of the dependencies?
Some people just like to know what they install and why. I also don't like installing stuff that drags along loads of dependencies, especially ones I don't think I need. ***shortened*****
-----Ursprüngliche Nachricht Ende----- Well, you speak about control....and then use IMAP (which for many users is the gmail or freemail server of an uncontrollable third party. I speak about POP. Some people like to know what they install. Really? As another poster has shown that is a huge package....or a lot of modular dependencies. When you install google earth it brings even own qt3 libraries....talk about "slim". Some people like to know what they install (so they should not user rpm and do compilation from the source? The more I think about it: it is not an argument, to the contrary. I know that some gtk based packages draw in the whole gnome desktop. When i see that I can still say no. Because I do not USE the gnome desktop. But if I say: I want a kde based solution, and then I do not want to install the desktop? What argument is this? Akonadi is known to be integrated part of the desktop. If one does not want to use kde he can use also razorqt or whatever. But at a certain point I will have to know what I want.
I really think that if you want an email program all depends on what you search and it is about your usage. But I did not hear a comment up to now WHEN it was said, and in WHAT occasion that this is "just for the trash". I'm in complete control, it's my dovecot :-)
I speak about POP. Some people like to know what they install. Really?
I think they do, yes. Particularly admins like to be in control.
Some people like to know what they install (so they should not user rpm and do compilation from the source?
Yes, some times that is necessary. Some people even go further and write everything themselves, but let's not be silly.
The more I think about it: it is not an argument, to the contrary.
I wasn't trying to argue either way, I only wanted to say that packages sometimes do drag in unnecessary stuff. Sometimes it's a packaging error, sometimes it's a matter of how one perceives "unnecessary". -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
