I have kde2 and kde1 living happily together (it seems). Every thing else seems to work ok. The new kde2 mp3 player kaiman plays them when I login using kde2 but When I login using kde1 kmp3 doesn't put out any sound. It says it's playing but no sound and no increment of the progression indicators. Any one else seen this. I've got 3 machines all doing the same thing after these 2 upgrades. Under kde1 and kde2 xmms still plays them. kmp3 is the only one that won't????? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com

Is kmp3 resetting the volume or device settings? -- Scientific theories, according to Sir Karl Popper, can be "falsified," or proven wrong, by experiment. Unscientific theories -Marxist dialectical history and Freudian psychology were Popper's favorites- are formed in such a way that they cannot be falsified by data.

It doesn't look like it. Although it looks like kmp3 fires up /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp (using lsof | grep /dev/) but kaiman only fires up /dev/dsp and /dev/null. I remember now when I installed kde2 that souund didn't work in kde2. I was unsing the emu10k1-0.4.SuSE rpm from the SuSE cd's for my sb-live. Loaded from /sbin/init.d/boot.local - modprobe emu10k1. For kde2 I had to stop loading it and ran yast2 to set up the sound. I think it is now using alsa. The package is installed alsa-0.5.8-3. I was using the oss mixer and now when I try it it says it can't get /dev/mixer. So now I have to use kmix. I'm starting to think I have a package conflict. Even in kde2 where sound works I have the following messages in my Xconsle display Dec 2 04:36:40 harley modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Dec 2 05:00:56 harley modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Dec 2 05:00:56 harley modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Dec 2 05:00:56 harley modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Dec 2 05:00:56 harley modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 ????????? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com
