[SLE] Setting up Network Printer
networking, always enjoyed it, let it be with modems at first, or now days with NIC's. Printers, hate them, always have! But I have to learn how to deal with printers in the world of Linux... I have the Epson 850n. For those of you that don't know, it is a network printer. The only connection any of my computers have to it is via the NIC built into the printer. I have never setup a printer in Linux, or any UNIX for that matter. The first Linux box, named roses, I would also like to get setup as the print server for all machines, both UNIX and Windows. Samba is already running on roses so she can be a file server. I figure that once I am able to print from roses to the Epson 850n, setting up Samba should be real simple. The two things I don't understand are this: How do I configure roses to know that there is a printer on the network (TCP/IP) in which it can print to? What do I do about print drivers? -- Sam Carleton ------------ http://www.bigfoot.com/~scarleton (Homepage) http://www.uptimes.net/hostinfo.html?hid=1218 (Linux Box) http://www.uptimes.net/hostinfo.html?hid=3167 (web server) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Use apsfilter which can be installed by SuSE If it is installed run this command and it should be pretty straight forward /var/lib/apsfilter/SETUP Hope that helps Christopher T. Hi, Firstly you have to know the IP address of the printer. All these printers come with a preset IP address. Most allow you to alter this address thru the menu. I generally change the IP address of the printer to reflect the network addressing I'm using e.g. 10.212.32.44 Once this is done add it to hosts file 10.212.32.44 <printer name> then using yast add the printer System Administration --> Network Configuration ---> Administer Remote Printer Regards, Graham Smith On 04-Mar-2000 Sam Carleton wrote:
