Hello everyone I am having a rough time getting my laptop to work in 1280x854 resolution (the native resolution of the beast) - I have tried in Sax2 to set up the right resolution (it warned that it could not detect screen size, so I had to put it in in mm) - it seems no matter what I do, I do not get the good resolution, it just jumps back to 1024x768 all the time. This is not good because it makes edges look "fuzzy" i suppose scaling everything. When I tell it that the screen is LCD>1280x800 (close?) it accepts, but when I test the picture is garbled. Has anyone got a decent widescreen resolution working? Any help or comments much appreciated. My laptop: Notino W6700 (http://www.higrade.com/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=1930) Nvidia GeForce 440 Go 64Mb 15.2in lcd with a native resolution of 1,280 x 854 (apparently the same as a Ti Powerbook) Thanks, H
I HAVE gotten this to work. However, my laptop is 1280x800 There were some gotchas. First, the 6229 driver from nvidia did NOT work wide-screen. Second, I needed to put the mm's in the XF86Config file to get the right dpi aspect (92,92) dpi is important to be equal or you will get some scaling still. Third, I needed to get the right modelines to get the proper resolution. I googled for them. I had to replace my harddrive after I got this setup and working. I haven't done it again yet. I will post my results when I do it again. B-) On Friday 07 January 2005 07:57 am, Hamish wrote:

OK Figured it out - The Nvidia driver actually did work for me (used YOU to get it), Changed the monitor in Sax2 to LCD>1280x1024@60Hz, set the resolution, test... it works YAY! Thanks for the response Brad, Cheers, H
I thought mine was working too, until I noticed the dpi in the xfree86.log file showing uneven numbers (eg (96, 92)). Yast does NOT get the latest (6229) driver. To test, I used gimp to create a new 120x120 picture and 1.) first, gimp told me it couldn't detect the dpi 2.) the picture was NOT square. It wasn't until I got the modeline right, that I got the dpi right, that I got the square image. FYI B-) On Friday 07 January 2005 08:27 am, Hamish wrote:
