[opensuse] Thunderbird - Any way to dump all messages from a folder to a single file?
Listmates, Is there a clean way to dump all messages from a thunderbird folder to a single text file? Something that would remove the headers in the process? I know I can always just copy the .thunderbird/blahblah/Mail/<server>/<folder> to somewhere else, but that is just the raw mail file. Anybody know any tricks for this without writing a script to do it? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Take a look at formail. I think it'll probably do what you're after. -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can select all the messages and then print them, but at best that will give you a postscript file, with headers. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well what-do-you-know? I have never heard of this little guy before in my life. Looks promising. Thanks Per! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Well, I looked at the little guy and it looks like it's back to parsing on From - starts the header and ^$ ends the header and ^$^$ ends the message. Probably get more control this way anyway ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. To have formail extract all 'From:' addresses from a Thunderbird mailbox
file:
formail

To have formail extract all 'From:' addresses from a Thunderbird mailbox file:
formail
To remove all headers and just dump the body of each mail:
formail

Per,
I read the man page start to end and I didn't get that at all. I'm glad it's there, but I sure didn't read that from the man page.
I agree, the man page could be better (as could so many of them). I should have posted a couple of short examples first, then pointed you to the man page. Still, when it comes to processing a mailbox file, formail is exactly the right tool. -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
