(SuSE 9.0, Gnome 2.2.2, Synaptic 0.46) I used Synaptic to install AbiWord22, version 2.1.0-100. during the install, Synaptic indicated that a dependency had not been met and indicated that abiword needed to be installed. I added abiword 2.0.3-100 to the list. Synaptic then completed the install with no reported errors. However, I cannot now find the executable for abiword22. I can find and execute abiword (2.0.3) but not abiword22 (2.1.0). Using 'Search for File', I found abiword but not abiword22. Can anyone help me find abiword22? Any assistance will be appreciated. I have uninstalled anything with abiword in the name and have reinstalled the original AbiWord 2.0.3. Now I will try again to install abiword 2.2. I'll let you know how it comes out but it will probably be tomorrow. Thanks for responding so quickly. Don Henson

Problem solved. It appears that I didn't include the "-" nor the "." in abiword-2.2. However, this does bring up the question why did the search for files not find that name when the search term was "abiword*"? Anyway, this problem is resolved. Don Henson

How did you search? rpm -qa|grep abiword would have found both locate searches a database that is normally updated about 12:05 am, so would not find the app installed today unless you manually updated the database (updatedb). -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

Her is a simple one liner I put in a file called grpm to search the rpm database: rpm -qa|grep -i $* I called my file grpm for grep from the rpm database (make sure the file is excutable). Anytime I want to search the database nad see if I have a package installed I run grpm <partial string of the search> ex. grpm abi would return any package that has abi in it. Ken Schneider

This is already built into rpm. Just do rpm -qa abi*
I found it by doing rpm -ql <name of rpm> | grep bin the ql instruction causes rpm to list all the files in it, and the executable is always in a bin directory. Henry Harpending On Tue, Jan 27, 2004 at 02:48:07PM -0700, Donald D Henson wrote:
