Hi, I am still struggling to figure out why my new Vostro 1700 with nVidia 8600 is so sluggish running Compiz. I have now tried the same install on my work PC (Duo 2.4Gig, nVidia 6600) and it runs like a dream; I dont understand it - the Vostro and PC have basically the same specs except for the Vostro has a faster video card. I have exactly the same versions of everything installed, same nvidia, X, compiz, etc. and followed exactly the same procedure for installing nvidia and compiz. The PC is fast and my laptop is sluggish (X - 100% CPU when doing any compiz stuff). I know its not the Vostro hardware, because when I install XGL it runs great, but I cant use other OpenGL apps so I really want to get it working without it.
