You get the mixer because that is where you can control the volume. It is also known as kmix in the application tree under volume control. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

Yes, but what i want is the gnome (or windows) kind of volume control, where i click and slide up and down from the panel, not to open a separate mixer gui! is this not possible in kde? I only want advanced volume options like the mixer if i "right-click" on the volume button. Clem.

It works as designed. You could always make changes to kmix or write an application that does just that if you need the functionality, but I see a range of mixers in the KDE menu that do a fine job of setting the volume. I click on KMix in the panel and adjust whichever control to requirement. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Clem, Try KAMix instead of KMix. It does exactly what you describe: left-click is just a master volume slide; right-click is the whole mixer. Carlos

That's the KMix app. It autoloads into the System tray and if you left click it a master volume control slider appears. You need to run it from the Start Menu, Multimedia, Volume Control, KMix. There isn't an applet for it since SuSE 9.0 or so. If you right click it in the system tray then you have options to open the mixer window and adjust other settings. Stan

Which is exactly what this provides. Left click on the icon for a volume slider. Also, it is a single click -not- a double click. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

With Kmix if you place the mouse pointer over its icon on the panel, you can control the volume with the mouse wheel without opening the mixer program. The same works for AmaroK to control your music volume. Open KMix not kamix Click on SETTINGS --->Configure Kmix ----> Tick enable system tray volume control ,, you have a typical Lame dumb windBloZe style volume control instead of a decent functional mixer . pete . -- If Bill Gates had gotten LAID at High School do YOU think there would be a Microsoft ? Having started kmix he can then put his mouse over the tray icon and use the scroll button to adjust the volume.
