1) diald wont start from boot. It says yes in rc.config and the system boots up on run level 2 I have to start diald manually ie:diald

Never! USe the /sbin/init.d/rcx.d/S20diald scirpt (or the relative to link)

2) when I request a service such as telnet <my provider in /etc/hosts> it triggers diald and sucessfully dials up gives me a local IP and remote IP then states "ppp not replacing existing default route to $" "connect script timed out. KIlling script"

Im not so sure but... have you checked for permission missunderstood ?

notice the error is *after* the ip address are issued ! Ive tried tweeking both /etc/diald.conf and /etc/suseppp/diald/generic.diald while diald was dialing up every 30 seconds no change
