Re: [SLE] Lowest spec running KDE
From: "Manx Biaggi"
Ok so whats the lowest spec someone has running KDE on 8.2, im currently putting it on a P1 266 and its painfull, anyone got lower and if so how?
P1 266 with 128MB Ram 4 GB Hard Drive.
I would like to know this also, I installed it on an old P II 333 with 128 mb ram, 8 gig. It just sit there forever in KDE before it decides to do anything. I was somewhat disappointed and wondered what I need to do to get it to run on the machine. Roy
Well mine is slow, but for the job of a packet logger (using a GUI in X) on
a KVM ( Zonet before anyone asks, and as long as you are switched to "this"
machine before startup it works fine) It is bearable.
I was thinking of upping the ram to 512 or 1 GB to see if it was any better,
but if anyone has any great ideas, please fell free to tell.
Rob

Have you ever tried XFCE?? You can still run all of the KDE apps and it is much faster... Maybe it's the memory size. I run it on a PII 300 laptop with 256MB with little problem (well, it's not lightning fast, but it is quite tolerable). Steve
