[oS-EN] oS-en Huge keyboard on screen

Hi, I had to reboot my miniserver (nfs stopped working, a partition had disapeared), and on boot I got a huge keyboard photo appearing in the display. See photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/K2BXCA5PKNKPxs9N7 WHY? How do I remove that aberration permanently? This is not a touch screen. There is a physical keyboard via radio, with an USB dongle that receives the signal. Login manager is sddm I just want username and password prompt in the traditional manner, two small text boxes in the center. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from Telcontar, using openSUSE Leap 15.5)

Ok, now I have: Isengard:~ # cat /etc/sddm.conf [Theme] [XDisplay] [General] InputMethod= Isengard:~ # Logged out, ctrl-altbckspace twice. Then init 3, init 5 from ssh. The keyboard is gone, but I get the ugly display from my second photo. Oh, top left there is a drop down that says "Layout US", which can not be changed. My keyboard is Spanish, of course. I have to reboot, because I updated the machine. Top right there is a circular arrow icon that reboots the machine, no questions asked :-/ Ok, that touch keyboard on a non touch display is gone. Thanks. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.6 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Slackware still beats them all; you log in before GUI, then startx or if you insist some useless DM :-( my 2 cents I was just looking at new versions of dolphin while tweaking slackware, it's got sidepanels left and right with what looks like a sub-dolphin whatever PLUS a freakin' terminal screen at the bottom. What's next for krissake, an entire dolphin desktop? Puke. Dam idiots don't know what KISS means anymore, but they ARE very quick to kill of what's usefull like a full menu bar and a full editable loacation window as hardwired defaluts.

None of those figure in the man page. For example on some systems I get the anon avatars but nothing else. Just guessing that this is because those DM's do not use UID but the GECOS identifier which is a huge security hole so I NEVER use them. Now if EnableAvatars=false removes the avatars then what's left? By user ID I do not mean the abreviated one that might be u4 with #1004 but "UserFour" or the name of the person. I have nopticed that some OSes will NOT let a user wityhout this 'namme' to be created.

EnableHiDPI= Enables Qt's automatic HiDPI scaling. Can be either "true" or "false". Default value is "true". InputMethod= Set the Qt input method for the greeter. Tablet users with Qt Virtual Keyboard in- stalled can set this to "qtvirtualkey- board" for the on-screen keyboard. Other known values are "ibus" for the Intelli- gent Input Bus, or "compose" for dead keys support. Leave this empty if unsure.
[Theme] EnableAvatars=false
EnableAvatars= When enabled, home directories are searched for ".face.icon" images to dis- play as their avatars. This can be slow on some file systems. When disabled, all avatars will be default. Themes may choose to hide them altogether. Default value is true. Maybe it would be preferable to know what themes are available, get previews, and choose one. ThemeDir= Path of the directory containing theme files. Default value is "/usr/share/sddm/themes". Isengard:~ # ls /usr/share/sddm/themes elarun maldives maya Isengard:~ # They do have a preview. I just tried "maya", which is plain. The input fields are huge, though. "elarun" is tiny, maybe too tiny on the icons. "maldives" has a nice photo in background, the fields are reasonable sized, and the buttons have text, not icons. I'll keep this one. It doesn't matter much, this machine login is normally not touched in months, but not ugly and usable is something to have. The layout in all themes is "us" and there are no choices. :-? No avatars in any of them. Well, maybe if I put a ".face.icon" :-? I do have a ".face" in my desktop machine. They could make up their minds. Oh, dang it. I pressed shutdown by mistake, it doesn't ask. I wanted log out to see the small avatar. This machine is slow to boot up, it has 4 big external hard disks attached and a weak cpu. Buah, the maldives theme has no avatars. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.6 x86_64 at Telcontar)

It is an idea, yes... I also thought about that one. You think that perhaps I should report that the keyboard is larger than half the screen and occludes the view of the avatars?
Nope, that's what 'ls' lists. Unless there is another directory not mentioned in the man page. Isengard:~ # locate breeze-openSUSE Isengard:~ #
If you want to customize the theme, just create a file called theme.conf.user in the theme folder.
