Hello everybody, I was running Linux up to six months ago, but had to go windoze (don't ask) for a specific task. But now I am ready to return to the brotherhood! A couple of questions: 1) Are there any reports of people running Fritz under Wine that anyone knows about? I'd format an' install SuSE tomorrow if I knew I could sort this out. 2) Winmodem. Groan. I put a Lucent-based Genius GM56PCI-L in (I think external modems are just so untidy - I know, I know). I found a driver from physcip.uni-stuttgart.de does anybody know how certain it is that this will work? It's RPM so should be okay???? 3) Obviously I've collected mail - I'm using Outlook. Can I convert this when I go back to Linux? Oh I miss Mutt. Please help and get me out of this windoze nightmare! I've forgotten how many crashes I've had, but enough is enough. Thanks Harvey --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.323 / Virus Database: 180 - Release Date: 08/02/02

This is doable, but only in a roundabout way that i know of. Using Outlook Express, import your Outlook emails, contacts, etc. Then using netscape on windows import the outlook express database, then, in netscape in linux, import the netscape directory.
From netscape under linux, you can then import the mails into other clients quite easily (I highly recommend the latest Evolution from www.ximian.com)

What Ewan proposes does work, but it is a real pain. I have just converted my Outlook messages & address book to Evolution. One thing to watch out for is Outlook created Contacts and Inbox sub-folders. Anything in a sub-folder of Contacts and second level Inbox sub-folders will not always get converted eg: Contacts | -> SubA | -> SubB You should move or copy everything from SubA & SubB to Contacts before conversion. Inbox | -> SubA | -> Sub1 You should move or copy everything from Sub1 to SubA or Inbox before conversion. HTH Dave

My recommendation would be to use KMail on Linux... you only need to import your Outlook mails to Outlook Express 5 (or 4). Store the .dbx-files somewhere and copy them to your Linux machine... then use Kmail-Import on the folder where you put the .dbx-files and you'll have all your folders with all the mails in KMail. Really fast and easy. I use this frequently when I'm forced to work on win for a while... when I come back, I simply copy the dbx-files and have everything in my linux environment... Ther may be a simpler solution for users switching between linux and windoze. I'm using polarmail (www.polarbar.org), a fully java emailclient, so I can access my mailfiles, accounts etc from both linux and w2k. You may have some typical "javaproblems", but polarmail offers a lot: multiple accounts, pop, imap, multiple identities, filtering etc. Jereoen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
