smb IOSlave is missing from KDE 3.0.4
Hi list, SuSE Linux 8.1, updated KDE 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 using YOU. Now, I'm not able to access the Windows shared folder on other machine using the location smb://computer/share in Konqueror. It seems like it doesn't understand smb:// as a special thing (KIOSlave). Checked KDE Control Center/Information/Protocols... no sign of smb (... sftp, smtp, smtps, tar... yes, everything, but not smb) Let's check the included in kdebase3: rpm -ql kdebase3 | grep kio_ (yes, the kio is followed by underscore, and after the -q we have a small L not a big i --- by the way, why the default font of SuSE 8.1 KMail is this one in which l is identical with I?) It displays a lot of kio-s (... kio_sftp.la, kio_sftp.so, kio_smtp.la, kio_smtp.so...) but not kio_smb.la, kio_smb.so :( Ok, conclusion now. SuSE didn't give us the Samba KIOSlave with the KDE 3.0.4 upgrade to KDE. Why, SuSE, why? :( Any help, friends? Thanks, Dan Laba -- Binaries might die, but source code lives forever

zgrep kio_smb CD1/ARCHIVES.gz reveals that kio_smb is now in kdebase3-samba. It probably wasn't installed by default, so just grab it from the update directory update/8.1/rpm/i586/kdebase3-samba-3.0.4-4.i586.rpm Anders
